For automotive external sensors and small current external modules, power is supplied through long cables from the motherboard. In this case, off-board loads need to be protected in the power devices to prevent damage to the on-board components in the event of a short circuit to ground or a short circuit to the battery due to cable damage. Off-board sensors require a consistent power supply as an on-board component to ensure high accuracy of data acquisition.

The TPS7B4253QDDARQ1 device is designed for automotive applications with 45V load sag. The device can be used as a tracking low dropout (LDO) regulator or voltage tracker to create a closed power loop for off-board sensors with an on-board mains supply. The output of the device is precisely regulated by a reference voltage on the ADJ pin.

To provide accurate power to the off-board module, the device provides an ultra-low tracking tolerance of 4mV between the ADJ and FB pins. The back-to-back PMOS topology eliminates the need for external diodes under reverse polarity conditions.The TPS7B4253QDDARQ1 devices also include thermal shutdown, sense clamp, overload, and battery short circuit protection to prevent damage to on-board components under extreme conditions.
